Immigration Bill 2014 gets Royal Assent

September 6, 2019

The Immigration Bill 2014 was given royal assent and both houses were notified at 7pm on the 14th May

Key highlights of the Bill include:

  • Landlords need to check that their tenants have the right to reside in the UK
  • Appeals against immigration charges are reduced from 17 to 4
  • Clamping down on sham marriages or civil partnerships
  • Temporary migrants (with time limited immigration status) to make a financial contribution to the NHS for treatment
  • Simplifying recovery of unpaid fines from rogue employers

The timescales for implementation are now being decided and we will publish these once we receive confirmation.

As an aside Stefan Sosnowski will be presenting this and other immigration related topics at the CIPD HR software show at 9.45am on 18th June 2014.
